March 24, 20202020 Blackwater Valley Opera Festival Cancelled
Irish Heritage received the following message from its friends in Lismore, County Waterford on 21st March 2020.
“It is with great sadness that we have taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Blackwater Valley Opera Festival.
“As the COVID-19 situation continues to develop, and restrictions on gatherings remain for the foreseeable future, our primary concern is to keep our community of visitors, supporters, artists, staff and volunteers safe. Not only are we disappointed not to be welcoming you to our beautiful Blackwater Valley, but we are enormously apprehensive for the future of our artists and the local community who have been preparing for this Festival over the last year and the resulting impact that this cancellation will have on their lives and businesses.
“BVOF is very much a community collaboration and the generous support to-date from our audience, Friends, sponsors and donors has enabled us not only to deliver much loved opera, recital and concert performances but also to work with thousands of young people through our education programme and initiatives with local schools.
“As we look to a brighter future, we are committed to making sure that the Festival will continue to thrive. If circumstances allow, we will hope to present a small programme of exciting recitals and concerts along the Blackwater Valley later in 2020.”
Irish Heritage will be collaborating with the Festival over coming months to contribute to the survival and success of future festivals.
